The Volkswagen Golf has been around for a long time. While it might not have the immediate recognition of, say, the VW Beetle, it is an iconic member of the lineup, and is constantly evolving and becoming more and more prevalent in the compact hatchback sedan segment. Another vehicle that has been making waves for several years, though not nearly as long, is the Honda Fit. The Honda Fit is a bit smaller than the Golf, slating itself into the subcompact hatchback sedan segment, but the two make excellent competitors.
We thought we’d see how they fare against one another by pitting the 2018 Volkswagen Golf vs 2018 Honda Fit in a side-by-side comparison. To do so, we’ve picked out a few of the most important specifications to consider and placed them into the table below. Give it a look, and then we’ll go into more detail beneath it.
Things start off positive right out of the gate for the 2018 VW Golf, as it offers an extra 40 horsepower more than the Honda Fit. 40 horsepower isn’t a mind-blowing advantage, but it is big enough to be impressive and offer a noticeable different in the way the two vehicles operate. However, a sizeable advantage in power often leads to a setback in fuel economy, which is unfortunately confirmed in the second row. The Fit achieves an extra two miles per gallon, which will save drivers some change at the pump in the long run, but won’t be that noticeable up front.
Something that will be noticeable, however, is just how much extra space the VW Golf can accommodate behind the back row of seats. A massive 6.2 cubic feet of extra space can be found in the Golf’s cargo hold, aptly enabling it to fit much more than the Fit. The final row then shows that both hatchback sedans are able to fit the same amount of passengers inside.
